Changing a tiff file to pdf file

I scanned documents into my computer. They came out as tiff files. When I go to email them it says the file is too large. Any suggestions on how to decrease the file size so I can upload and send them?

Thanks ahead of time.

Converting to a PDF might not necessarily do anything to reduce the size.

Does it have to be PDF? Converting to a JPEG might be better at reducing the size of the file. In Preview there's a slider that allows you to adjust the "image quality" (and thus file size) in "Export". You can also re-save as a TIFF file using one of several set compression algorithms, although there's no slider.
