Any experiences good or bad with iExplorer?

When my MacBookPro died and I had to reinstall iOS and everything that was on my hard drive, in the process I lost my iTunes .itl library files etc., so now my iTunes only has songs that I have purchased and all of my playlists are gone. 😟 😟

I understand that if I download iExplorer, DON'T synch my iPhone and Mac, and rather run the iExplorer application, I can copy all of the songs that currently reside on my iPhone back onto my Mac, including the playlists.

Anyone have any success in doing so? I am nervous about trying this as my entire iTunes library of songs only exists on my iPhone.

Please advise if you have experience with this. Thanks!

MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. I have vague recollections that I might have tested it back when it was new and free, but more recently I've used iFunBox and Finder or Explorer for recovering media plus some Windows scripts that I wrote myself. As above my own library is backed up to multiple locations to avoid the need to recover data like this.
