It's not strange in the least. When enough pressure is put against any phone, they can bend and iPhone is no different. Hopefully what Apple will do is offer you an out of warranty replacement. It's extremely unlikely they will simply replace the phone at no cost to you. And if you get an out of warranty replacement, don't put it in your back pocket and sit on it. I'm sure if you pay the $319, that will be reminder enough not to sit on your phone:
Warranties do not cover user inflicted damage.
It seems ridiculous that a phone would bend from being in a pocket and having a case on.
What's ridiculous about simple physics? Given enough force, metal will bend. You're lucky the glass didn't crack, too.
It doesn't matter what brand of phone you put in your back pocket. If you insist on sitting on it, it will bend. These things aren't an inch thick.
It’s just so strange to me, I’ve always had an iPhone and every generation since they came out with the 4 and I’ve never had this problem. I’m just really bummed. Hopping there’s something to be done considering other people have had similar issues.
Hi
Damage is not covered by warranty unless you have Apple care.
Make an appointment at Apple store they may offer you An out of warranty replacement you will need to pay half price of a new iPhone.
Cheers

Something can be done. They offer out of warranty replacements for a lower cost than buying a new one. The glass on these devices are very thin so stop keeping it in your back pocket and especially don’t sit on it.
My son has an iPhone SE with a slight (albeit noticeable) bend and when we took it to an Apple Store they said a bend was not covered and the replacement was around $269. At this point he just lives with it.
Take it to Apple and ask the options you have. Most likely they will offer you an out of warranty replacement for a cost.
It wasn’t necessary to be rude. And just so you know, they did replace it, under warranty.
There are many who have had to pay for an out of warranty replacement, so you are beyond lucky they did this for you.
I was only stating a fact. Yes, you're extrememly lucky they replaced it as a warranty consideration. They didn't have to as bending your phone is not a factory flaw.
My iPhone 7 is bent from sitting
