Keynote Remote with Bluetooth

Just upgraded to iOS 11.2.5 on my iPhone and iPad and find that it no longer supports Bluetooth between iOS devices. Apple support confirm this.

For years I've been using Keynote remote on my iPhone to control Keynote presentations on my iPad. Not only does it turn the pages but it also shows the speaker notes - invaluable. In places with no wifi or no cellular connection (and I seem to find quite a lot!), I've been able to rely on Bluetooth to link phone and iPad - but not anymore. Thanks Apple!

I'd be grateful for any suggestions or third party products which might help?

I had the same problem after updating to iOS 11.2.5/11.2.6. I discovered that when only Bluetooth is activated (no wifi), on the iPhone Keynote must be granted access to cellular data in Settings/Cellular before Keynote Remote would recognize and connect to the iPad. No idea why this would be needed since only Bluetooth is being used for communication (?), but this reproduces an earlier issue: Why are Keynote Remote and Keynote not linking via bluetooth between my iPhone and iPad.

Anyway, I can confirm that with this fix an iPhone can be used as a Keynote Remote to drive an iPad presentation with Bluetooth only (after they've been paired), when both devices are running 11.2.6. Hope this resolves your issue!

Many thanks for your reply. I tried it with Keynote on the iPhone switched on for Mobile data - but unfortunately it does not work for me. Possibly because my iPAD doesn't have a cellular connection and thus no option to switch on Mobile Data for Keynote. The earlier issue to which you refer, says that both devices had Keynote switched on forMobile data.

I have done forget device on each one. Each says it is discoverable. However, they do not discover each other (but they both discover my iMac). So I cannot re-pair with Bluetooth alone. I then tried Hotspot with Bluetooth and no wifi. They paired and and Keynote Remote worked. I then turned off Hotspot and the Bluetooth connection ceased! I give up! No idea why your's works and mine doe not. But make sure you enjoy it!
