Iphone Messages over 30 days old

I thought I had my settings to keep old messages "forever". Apparently, it was set to delete after 30 days. I did not discover this until I bought a new iPhone yesterday.

So, the simple question is..... Can I find and recover in any way shape or form messages older than 30 days. I used my last backup (Itunes- computer) to set up my new phone. I know older versions of the back up were before the setting got changed so I don't know if I can find it in another backup. If I can, I don't know how to retrieve an old backup without messing up my current settings.

In short, is there any way at all to get a message back over 30 days old.
