The newest iOS 11.3 update enables a feature that asks if you're sure you want to delete a text message/iMessage once you choose the delete option. It's making me crazy! I tried searching through the settings to remove this deletion confirmation, but can't find anything on the topic. Is there any way to remove this feature?

No, Apple doesn't consult with users. Instead, they see what users do with their phones and often introduce features based on what they perceive as a real need. This is one such feature. Daily, multiple users come here to these user only forums begging for help to recover an accidentally deleted text message. In most cases, the only way to get the message back is to restore from backup, which often people simply don't have.
So, this very small change was introduced to help the countless thousands of users to ensure when they use swipe to delete that they truly do want to delete the message.
Are you aware there is another simple method to delete messages that will not ask you to confirm you want to delete? Yes, Apple provided the best of BOTH worlds to users. Simply use the Edit/Tap Messages(s)/Tap Trash icon and voila, message(s) delete without confirmation. That can't be any more cumbersome could it? It's three steps, just like it was before on swipe to delete.
This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen Apple do. Steve Jobs wanted intuitive movements and simplicity. This means that if I swipe to delete and then tap to delete, I don’t need a 3rd stupid gesture to confirm what I want. It’s deleting a message, not erasing my whole phone. Hey Apple, come to your senses and fix this or at least give us the option to turn it off.
Completely agree. Three (3) gestures to fulfill one action is certainly not what Steve Jobs envisioned for the Apple UI experience. Apple is (or at least was) about elegance and efficiency.
Apple - fix it. At the very least, give us the option to turn it off.
Consider this: Messaging is a high use smartphone action. Two actions beyond "swipe to delete" means 1/2 second (per message) x 3,000 messages (per year) = 25 minutes of wasted time. Multiply that by every Apple iPhone on the planet... the number of hours wasted is staggering. I doubt Steve would approve.
Not only that the feature is buggy. The prompt box disappears on its one regularly. And after this my messaging app has to be for closed and open to use again. I’m getting new text alerts and they aren’t showing up until the force close and I believe it has something to do with this feature. Anyone else?
It is a feature, but it is not a benefit. This change could not have been a customer request. It should be removed or the option to select or not select “delete confirmation” should br added to settings.
So when I get the prompt often the prompt goes away before I can select anything. When this happens, the app is useless. The create new button on top right is gone and my keyboard goes away. And the most noticeable issue is that shortly after this feature is used, I will often not recover a new text without restarting the app. Attaching video of this issue.
This is driving me nuts also. Unnecessary number of clicks. As everyone mentioned give use the option to choose this behavior or disable it.
I don't need Messages become like Google Hangouts, which is even worse for deleting a message.
I respectfully disagree that it does "nothing". The Mac press covers issues they find blowing up on the communities, and it has led to action from Apple (see the various "screengates", etc that were ignored by Apple until the press noted the enormous pushback here and elsewhere).
If you think having to actually confirm a text delete is a huge issue, you need more going on in your life. I may eat my words, but I'd hardly think this will "Blow Up" for Apple. It's not a bug. It's a useful (for some) change, nothing more.

Those of us who find inconsistencies in the UX, which this is a glaring example of a lack of consistency at best and sloppy design at worst, discuss it here (hence a "community"). Perhaps it's those who decide it's time to lecture others about what constitutes import and where to express it might need more going on in their life. Just sayin.

Yea, but this isn't one of those issues. It's not "blowing up" anything.
I have the same issue and I hate it. Apple keeps changing things that work fine such that they no longer work fine. Very frustrating...kind of like changing Numbers to try to make me draw every time I touch a cell with my Apple Pencil. Oh well.

It’s not about handling it, you all are really pathetic with these criticism. Simply add what ever you think maybe useful but do allow a toggle for those not sharing your opinion. Email messages allow for this, why make it a forced feature for messages.

You may not have noticed but that post was in reply to me. And, it had to do with a previous conversation rbrylawski and I have had on the subject. We were doing something called "joking with each other".
