iOS 11.3 - Delete Message Confirmation

The newest iOS 11.3 update enables a feature that asks if you're sure you want to delete a text message/iMessage once you choose the delete option. It's making me crazy! I tried searching through the settings to remove this deletion confirmation, but can't find anything on the topic. Is there any way to remove this feature?

iPhone 7 Plus, iOS 11.2.6, iOS 11.3

No, Apple doesn't consult with users. Instead, they see what users do with their phones and often introduce features based on what they perceive as a real need. This is one such feature. Daily, multiple users come here to these user only forums begging for help to recover an accidentally deleted text message. In most cases, the only way to get the message back is to restore from backup, which often people simply don't have.


So, this very small change was introduced to help the countless thousands of users to ensure when they use swipe to delete that they truly do want to delete the message.


Are you aware there is another simple method to delete messages that will not ask you to confirm you want to delete? Yes, Apple provided the best of BOTH worlds to users. Simply use the Edit/Tap Messages(s)/Tap Trash icon and voila, message(s) delete without confirmation. That can't be any more cumbersome could it? It's three steps, just like it was before on swipe to delete.

Well, the time I saw it was when I had one of those warning icons, and when I went to the Vehicle Info section, it had some very extensive instructions for resetting the TPM I think (or something along those lines. And just so you aren't horrified, I was driving 15 miles an hour on my cul-de-sac when this occurred. I don't do multi-tasking when I'm actually driving on a road with other vehicles and the like. Personally, I think that the act of driving itself requires my full attention. Anything that takes your eyes off the road for more than 1 second is a hazard in my opinion....


I love the X5's. I'm hoping that the X5 will be my husband's next car.

Oh, the low tire warning. When I took art lessons in Salina, Kansas a cold front came in overnight before I left to drive home and suddenly all my tires were low on air (this was a 2008 528i). That warning says to pull over immediately and take care of the situation and the TPM will not reset unless you are in park and the car is not running. And on that car you couldn't see any of the navigation information (miles to go, ETA, etc.) unless you cleared the warning. There was a rest top about 20 miles south of Salina on IH 135 so I would drive at freeway speed to get the pressure up, pull into the roadside rest, stop the car and leave it in park with ACC on, start the reset of the TPM, then start the car and leave. In about 3 minutes the system would reset and the warning would go away.


Your husband should look at the new X2.

Just because you don't see the need for a particular feature doesn't mean that there aren't valid reasons for its existence.

I submitted the complaint form as I'm certain many others did as well. Not looking for Apple to delete this functionality, just give me the ability to turn it off. And by the way, Apple is reading this thread - they informed me that they needed to delete one of my posts because it included a poll / petition. So, Apple, please provide the functionality to disable this unwanted step feature.

As has been explained, the Host read posts to make sure that people adhere to the Terms of Use. They do not read for suggestions.

Reading and responding to are very different concepts.


They read only to control the discussion and ensure adherence to the terms and conditions you agreed to. Including no polls. They do not engage with the discussion except to point out technical resources for technical questions asked.


A simple Google search for "Apple Feedback" will lead you to the same page we have been providing a link to ad nauseum here.

No one from Apple who makes design decisions, or works with consumer feedback reads the posts here. The Hosts, who are Apple employees who have the specific job of managing this site, ensuring that the TOU for this forum are adhered to, and supporting the users of this site read the posts. So, your last sentence above is pointless.

It is beyond amazing. What we need to do though, ALL OF US need to do, is stop responding to any of them. This thread keeps getting moved to the top because every time we respond, we're helping keep it at the top. If we stop responding to these whiners, it will get buried and die the death it truly needs to die.


I'm going to do my part and unfollow the thread. I invite you all to do the same. Let them come, not read anything, post their "me too" post and get no responses from us.
