iOS 11.3 - Delete Message Confirmation

The newest iOS 11.3 update enables a feature that asks if you're sure you want to delete a text message/iMessage once you choose the delete option. It's making me crazy! I tried searching through the settings to remove this deletion confirmation, but can't find anything on the topic. Is there any way to remove this feature?

My argument would be those options or add-ons would be more consistent than what they did here.

Debating or positioning your point of view here is futile.

Like it or not, this is not a community for getting things changed. Debate and discussion are not its purpose. Although Apple hosts and monitors this community, it does not act on its conversations.

Apple asks for any feedback to be provided as shown below. Period.

I agree. I posted the same thing about hating the change and got sensored. They deleted my post cause I’m tired of them fooling around with how my phone works. Fix it apple nd stop playing with how our phones work or I’m out and I’ll say it again I’ll go to an Android at least they give you options.

Nobody here has a vested interest in what choice you make for your mobile device. This is a user to user technical support forum, not a social media site. There are Terms of Use for using this forum: Apple Support Communities Use Agreement. You should familiarize yourself with those terms, so you can understand that censorship was not involved. And as for options - take a look at your Settings. There are literally hundreds of options that you have.

I completely agree with the others. This is the most ridiculous update ever. Please get rid of it or install a setting to shut it off. It is making me crazy!

Not all the "others" here think this is a bad update. I think it's a good idea.

Expressing your opinion here will not forward your cause. Instead, tell Apple using the feedback page:

Unnecessary new feature. I hope Apple fixes this quickly.

There is nothing to fix. It is working exactly as Apple intended it to work. This was not accidental. And, while I can't guess what Apple will do in the future, most likely it will continue working this way for many years, because I believe it is Apple's response to the fact that users have been complaining for years that they accidentally deleted messages and the have no way of getting them back. I consider a great new feature.

However, you can make your opinion known to Apple by using https://apple.com/feedback. Posting in this user to user forum is a total waste of time, because Apple does not use it as a source for feedback. BTW, I have posted feedback thanking them for this change.

I don’t like this nanny state requirement to confirm deletion. It just showed up on my iOS devices and I’ve had 11.3 installed since it came out. I used to be able to swipe all of the way left and delete. You can use the edit function for multiple deletions.

Why are you telling us, other users in this user-to-user forum? We can't do anything about it. Tell Apple: https://apple.com/feedback.

I'm happy that you are so perfect that you have never accidentally deleted an important text message. However, from the number of posts from people who did and are devastated that they can't recover them (there were 5 such posts yesterday, which is about average) not everyone has reached your state of perfection.

Why not standardize the way messages (e-mail & txt/iMessage) work.

Why not read the conversation and realize you should tell Apple!

Why not create a “Trash” for txt/iMessage that keeps the last 30 days of messages ?

Why not pay attention to the advice given numerous times here and tell Apple!

I totally agree that I need the option at least to to turn confirmation off for deleting messages. I liked the old default of using no confirmation. I would love to just swipe the message away.

Interesting timing. Here's just ONE of the thousands of similar posts:

No. It was added because there have been a continuous stream of posts (5 or more a day) similar to this:

Accidentally deleted whole text convo on my IPhone 7! Help!

But if you had bothered to read the thread you posted to you would have known the answer and wouldn't have had to waste time posting, time in which you probably could have deleted hundreds of threads using the new option that is making you crazy.

I have a hard time trying to figure out what kind of idiot creates a shortcut and then adds another step to make it take longer than it did to start with. This is not only asinine, it is total idiocy. If it is necessary to protect the idiots out there, at least give us a way to turn it off.

It must be wonderful to be the sort of person who has never made a mistake, never been distracted and touched the wrong button. I envy you.

Yes, I fully agree.

I *already* swiped the message left, then tapped delete.

Don't ask me if I'm really, really sure about that.

I already used two actions to tell you to delete the message, don't force me to make a third one.

And I've already left feedback.

See the first post on this page. This is not a forum to register your complaints. This is a user to user technical support forum. No one here cares how you feel about the change. Apple cares. Tell them: Apple - Feedback

Since you have already left feedback, then there is no point in your post here. If you want to rant, do it on social media.

You don’t force a new feature on an end user without the option of disabling it.

It's done all the time. By all kinds of companies.

No, you seem to be missing the point.

Nope. You are.

This community did not create this issue, nor can we solve it.

You are correct. Steve won’t have allowed something as stupid as not allowing the end user to disable the feature.

Seriously? You think that invoking the name of Steve Jobs somehow makes your complaint legitimate? And how do you know what he would or wouldn't have allowed? If you want to complain, do so to Apple: Apple - Feedback. We can do nothing for you here since we are also users. You are wasting your time and ours.
