iOS 11.3 - Delete Message Confirmation

The newest iOS 11.3 update enables a feature that asks if you're sure you want to delete a text message/iMessage once you choose the delete option. It's making me crazy! I tried searching through the settings to remove this deletion confirmation, but can't find anything on the topic. Is there any way to remove this feature?

Every so often Apple comes up with a "Feature" that so small and so annoying that begs the question as to whether they ever consult with a user. YES! Delete confirmation is an unnecessary addition to IOS and we can only hope that some security patch will remove it

No, Apple doesn't consult with users. Instead, they see what users do with their phones and often introduce features based on what they perceive as a real need. This is one such feature. Daily, multiple users come here to these user only forums begging for help to recover an accidentally deleted text message. In most cases, the only way to get the message back is to restore from backup, which often people simply don't have.

So, this very small change was introduced to help the countless thousands of users to ensure when they use swipe to delete that they truly do want to delete the message.

Are you aware there is another simple method to delete messages that will not ask you to confirm you want to delete? Yes, Apple provided the best of BOTH worlds to users. Simply use the Edit/Tap Messages(s)/Tap Trash icon and voila, message(s) delete without confirmation. That can't be any more cumbersome could it? It's three steps, just like it was before on swipe to delete.

I'm throwing my voice in too. This "new feature" is a complete waste of time. Now when I delete a message I have to delete it, or confirm it, three times. All I need is a single swipe and its gone. I get hundreds of text messages a week and if I have to spend 3x time on each one of them it consumes my time. Who else does this, oh yeah Face Book Messenger, and that is a complete waste of my time too. (Apple I did not know you were trying to be like FB)

Thanks for sharing. We don't care. Apple is not here. Three times is an exaggeration. Swipe/tap to conform = 2 Steps. Tell it to Apple: Apple - Feedback.

Stop wasting your time and our time here. Nobody here can help you, and nobody here is interested in your indignation

Same issue, prior to 11.3 I could simply swipe away my text I wanted to remove and poof it was gone....NOW we have to hit delete and then confirm. ok Apple what are you doing here? really? have you lost it? no more mojo for apple? How can something so easy to program just change? 11.3.1 is now out, did it fix it? NOPE! so I guess this is what I get for updating...slower performance and functionality is out the door....those androids are starting to look more and more appealing.

Sure, go get yourself an Android. As Android has ALWAYS required confirm to delete a text message. In fact, exactly how Android handles text deletion has been posted in this thread. You would know that if you had bothered to read anything past the first post. Ultimately, we really don't care what you buy.

OMG, after incessant reminders to install the iOS update, remind me later, enter your password, etc (WHY CAN'T I DISABLE THIS!!!!) I finally installed the dang upgrade to find that I have to 1. swipe left, 2. tap delete 3. Confirm delete (3 taps!!!) to delete a message on imessage. This is NOT user friendly. Please let me turn it off. So annoying. I have this option in mail, right? Dude, if it's not broken, leave it alone.

I have this same issue and i hate it like everyone else. I also have not found how to remove it. Would love to know how.

EVERYONE ELSE?! Get Real. Do you speak for a billion users? You certainly don't speak for me. I think this is a really great feature, as it will reduce the steady stream of posts from people who accidentally delete threads, then want to restore them. Which is impossible.

In what fantasy world does the need to tap one additional item (which takes, by the way a nanosecond), or instead choose to simply EDIT the messages you want to delete then tap the trash can, in what fantasy world, does the process you use to do that end in divorce?

And, as for your idle complaints and threats here - don't waste your time. As fellow users, we don't really care about your dissatisfaction with the decision Apple made. Also, don't bother going to an Android. They have the exact same process in place.

If i get caught up that ends in a divorce because i cant delete my messages with a swipe, im going to have a field day suing apple.

Was a prize announced for most bizarre, outlandish or just plain goofy reply to this conversation?

We see a lot of effort made on some topics to link reality and fantasy. This is a good one.

Offer it to Apple. I'll bet their legal team would appreciate the heads up.

I've seen similar posts in threads where people what to know how to lock the Photos app separately from their phone.

People who can't figure out how to cover their tracks (hint: burner phone) shouldn't cheat on their spouses. It's a tragedy waiting to happen.

GB, the fantasy world is TODAY'S REALITY

and usability is important. Apple is the king of usability, and adding such a feature that takes 3 steps to delete a message, for every message, assuming you have maybe 20+ is a pain in the butt. It's not a matter of hiding them. I want to remove them so they don't clutter up my phone with stuff I don't need. Just like I clean up my email box where you can simply select a bunch and delete them without confirmation. I also don't care if fellow users care about my post. I was looking for information and selected the "I have that problem too" selection, which is an option here for a reason. Many Apple experts and/or employees monitor this group, provide answers to users, and report back to apple on possible improvements. If you find it useless, then don't come on here just to chastise people. We're looking for solutions and sharing information.
