How to disable Bluetooth Setup Assistant

I used to use a bluetooth trackpad but have replaced it in favor of a USB mouse. The mac still goes looking for it every time I restart or wake from sleep. This occurs on the login page even before I've logged in to any user. I obviously don't need it while I have the wired mouse connected. Does anyone know how to prevent the bluetooth setup assistant from popping up?

Mac mini, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. Uncheck "Open Bluetooth Assistant at startup if no mouse or trackpad is detected."

You may also want to remove your trackpad from Bluetooth Preferences: Using a Bluetooth mouse, keyboard, or trackpad with your Mac - Apple Support

"If you want to remove (unpair) a Bluetooth device from your Mac's device list, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Bluetooth.
  2. Hover the pointer over the device you want to remove, then click the button User uploaded file that appears next to the device's name.

After you remove a Bluetooth device, you'll have to repeat the pairing process if you want to use it again."
