Combine 85 PNG files into 1
I have 85 PNG files and wish to "merge" them into 1 PDF file. Can this be done (without having to type the file names 85 times)?
iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Let me know if you need more clarification.
No I'm good.
This is lengthy and I hope I remember everything.
1. Make sure in Preview > Preferences > Images… "When opening files:"… "Open groups of files in the same window" is checked.
2. Select all the files you want to merge, right click on them and choose Open with Preview.
3. At this point you have to convert them to PDFs. "Select All" from the Edit menu or press "Command + A"
4. From the "File" menu choose "Export Selected Images…"
5. I would create a new folder to put them in, click "Options", change the format to PDF, and Save
6. You can close the Preview window.
7. Now, from the folder of PDFs, select just the first PDF and open it in Preview
8. From the "View" menu select "Thumbnails"
9. Now, select all but the first PDF and drag them into the Thumbnail Sidebar
10. Then select "Export as PDF…", uncheck "Hide Extension, name the file, and Save.
Easy right? 😁

Have you tried dragging and dropping them onto a new Preview window?
one way allows you to select all 85 and other allows you to select 85 if there are more than 85 files.
they all must be highlighted in blue and you must open then with Preview.
FWIW, there is a way to open multiple images in Preview and save it as one PDF document with multiple pages although it's a bit convoluted. However, if you are trying to create something like a contact sheet with all images on one page and save it as a PDF that's a bit trickier.
Post back with your need.
There are in the same folder. I tried highlight the folder > Edit > Select All > Right click > Open with Preview. As many as 71 Preview windows open. The last Preview window open and it contain 71 documents 71 pages which is not what I want.
I am also not quite understand why do you have two methods one for more than 85 files and one with 85 files.
I have many PNG files (e.g. IMG_12345.png) stored on my iMac (under one folders). And I have 85 of them and I wanted to merge them into one single files which contains the contents of these 85 files. Obviously I will have 85 pages, but I just need to open one file to view the 85 pages worth of contents instead of opening 85 files, which is equivalent of opening 85 times.

Thank you for the well written instructions. Yes it's easy for me because I did a lot of scanning doc, receipts etc into one PDF but never thought of this clever "trick". You have just pushed me to the next level. Thank you.
You're welcome. My "Easy Right" comment was directed at myself. I dislike typing. 😎
This "trick" I came up with because Apple changed the behavior of Preview and oodles of users lamented not being able to merge PDFs as before.
I'm just happy I managed to explain it well. 😁
Oh Apple changed the behaviour of Photo is one of the few things that drive me up the wall. I lost "precious" photos because the delete photo is really delete permanently. This wasn't the behaviour in the previous version. Now you have to use remove from album.
Well, no matter what, I still love Apple 😍
I tried but it open into 71 documents with 71 files. The resultant is not 1 single file.
If all 85 images are in the same folder, highlight the Folder > go to Edit > Select All > then open them in Preview.
If there are more that 85 in the folder > hold the Command key > highlight the desired images > then open them in Preview.
