how do I import already trimmed movies into iMovie without it importing the whole untrimmed video?

I have used QuickTime player to trim a set of movies into shorter segments and saved each of these segments as new videos. However when I go to import them into iMovie it imports the whole movie from which the clip was taken.

my MacBook Pro is the latest and fully updated

I would really like to know if theres a special method I have to do to import just the trimmed clips to iMovie

MacBook Pro TouchBar and Touch ID, iOS 11.2.6, I have the latest iMovie update

Hi, James,

I tried your procedure, and the Quicktime-trimmed movie imports into iMovie as a trimmed movie. So something is going awry either with the way you trimmed the movie or the way you saved it.

Here's a copy of the Quicktime Help item on how to trim a movie. Are you following that procedure? Are you clicking the "Trim" button to set the trim after you do the trimming?

After you trim the movie, you can either save the movie as trimmed or export it as trimmed. If you export it or save it as a renamed movie, you may end up with two movies on your desktop -- the original one and the trimmed one. If you did that are you sure that you are importing the trimmed one and not the original one?

Once a movie has been properly trimmed and saved or exported as a new movie, it is a standalone and the trimmed part is gone forever. When you import it into iMovie, iMovie wouldn't be able to undo your trimming.
