Restoring iTunes play count and playlists from external hard drive backup

I just got a new hard drive for my MacBook Pro and restored my computer using a Time Machine backup from an external hard drive. When I opened iTunes, it opened empty. I know how to add my songs back in, but when I do, I lose all of my playlists and play counts from my previous hard drive. How do I get those back?

Sarah,

iTunes stores the counts and playlists as part of the overall library file not separately.

Find the location where your library was restored. The hold the Option key while you start iTunes. When it comes up, navigate to the correct iTunes library file. When you library comes back up in iTunes, it will look exactly as it was.
