Hi there, Prisoner6DrW!
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having an issue installing iTunes on your Windows PC and I am happy to help! Check out this article with the best steps to follow If you can't install or update iTunes for Windows. This will give you the best additional steps to take along with what to do if you continue to have issues installing.
Take care!
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Right-click on the setup file and run the installer as administrator. It may also help to pre-install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. In some cases you may also need to disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus software while installing. A couple of users found they had to uninstall their AV, disabling wasn't sufficient.
Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment.
Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

See my post above. See the section on iTunes installers if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. So far any 12.7.x version uses the same internal layout for the library so you can switch between them without needing to roll back to an older version of your iTunes library database.

Okay, so I downloaded an older version of iTunes, then tried to update it to 12.7.3 and I got an error that I didn't write down and clicked ignore by accident. It installed and iTunes then wouldn't run. I uninstalled it again and reinstalled the older iTunes (12.4.3). Now I get an error message when iTunes opens up that says "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."
I wish I didn't try to update, because I feel like I can't use iTunes on this computer again without doing another "fresh start."
And yes, I tried to install 12.7.3 again and got the same 0x80073715.
So I figured it out. I downloaded the wrong Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update, I installed vcredist_x64.EXE and apparently that's the wrong one. I tried vcredist_x86.EXE and iTunes installed properly.
Thank you.
You're welcome. 🙂
