Recommendation for temperature & diagnostic software

MB Pro High Sierra 10.13.3

My commuter seems to be running very hot. I cannot hear the fans but the outer casing seems much hotter than ever before.

I have never experienced this before so have no idea what you need to know, apologies for the length. Any advice will be appreciated.

Recommendations please for temperature checks and diagnostics. Possibly TG Pro? - iStat Menus 6? - or . . .?

I use iStat Menu version 6. It gives a good deal of temperature readings.

With the exception of Dropbox and perhaps "amUpdater" all those things are adware. I believe EtreCheck can eradicate them. To learn how to recognize adware so that you do not install those things read How to install adware.

Get rid of "Tunabelly". Utilities that seek to circumvent a Mac's thermal management systems are ill-advised and will result in premature hardware failure.

Many thanks for your input - and I used to think OS 8 was complicated - at least now we have software to help.

The reason I have not enabled TimeMachine, which I had on a previous MB. That computer worked well at all levels until one day it would not boot,, dead as a doornail. There were no warnings or symptoms.

Apple help went through all the possibilities but there was no getting past the fact that it was dead.

That was when Time Machine was inaccessible, so of no help in backing up.Fortunately I had my own external back up - but no computer.

I moved to my current MB Pro Retina but have stuck with regular back ups to an external HD, rather than relying on Time Machine.

I will work through your other recommendations - for which many thanks.
