My old iMac (8+yrs) is really showing its age. I don't have the funds to buy a new one, nor do I want payments. Won't for a long time.
I was wondering if there was a way to use the old iMac as just a monitor + current keyboard + mouse and get a new Mini? It would be the least expensive way for me to upgrade.

Your iMac is only a year older than mine, same amount of RAM. I figured out that a good AdBlock + using Safari's stopping videos from autoplaying helps a LOT. But my phone is still faster. I had time to save for it, and it was less than a new iMac.

Even if you could have gotten it to work you'd still need a real display to get it set up.
Reading glasses and iPhone for fast internet until I hit the lottery I guess.
You're talking to somebody who is using a 10 year old iMac with non-functional display, too little (4 GB) RAM, booted over USB2 to an external hard drive, etc., etc. 🙂
