Japanese MacBook Pro with US layout

Hi,

I was thinking about buying a MacBook Pro from Japan, when I fly there for holidays. I would like to know if there are going to be any problems setting US layout on the Japanese JIS keyboard? For example, I read about the inability to use Shift+2 to write "@". Is that still a problem or has it been resolved?

Thanks in advance,

Daniel Zikmund

I have one more question about this matter. When I connect an external keyboard of US layout, will I be able to use that keyboard as it is printed?

In principle yes, the macbook should recognize that the external keyboard has a different "type" (ANSI or ISO instead of JIS) and let you use it as printed. However I have seen reports over the years of cases where this does not work right automatically.
