Problems with Speak Selection/Text-to-Speech for Kindle App

I tried troubleshooting with Kindle support with no resolution (chat and voice call). The tech said he would note it for correction in the next revision... The revision that I am having issue with is 6.4. As info version 6.1 that is currently on an older device seems to work fine.

I’m pretty sure this is a problem with the latest Amazon app update and not Apple. My mobi files work just fine with the text-o-speech feature, but the AMZ3 files are the ones that skip paragraphs/pages. I’m looking to see if there are any threads on this problem over at Amazon.

"If" you switch to any other app or even press the Home button, text-to-speech will require you restart the process with he 2-finger swipe. Are you, by chance, leaving the Kindle page when this happens?

Kindle Sr. tech assures me it was not Kindle that changed. With a recent update, Apple seems to be steering people from Kindle to iBooks where text to speech works fine. Ask Kindle. Apple techs will try to make it work for you. It seems Apple didn't tell their techs that they broke the s/w.

This makes no sense when you think about it. If Apple wanted you to buy differently why not stop the service altogether? On the surface maybe they would get a few people to purchase iBook products, but doing a crappy job at something doesn't inspire me to buy something else from a company. In fact, I would definitely go somewhere else, especially if I thought I was being manipulated. I believe they said it, I just don't believe it's true.

I started having the same problem recently. I use the speech tool a lot reading book so this has been frustrating. Anyone discover a solution? The Speak feature on my iPhone is working fine for iBook and other apps I'm using. I'm only having trouble with Kindle.

Apple wants you to buy iBooks & Amazon Kindle wants you to buy their audible book version, for an additional fee of course. From the timing this problem started for me, I believe it’s Apple. It was working fine until the latest iOS update, long after the latest Kindle update.

I have also had the same problem with both ibooks and kindle. At first, I thought it the problem was just with the Kindle app, but after testing with an ibooks pdf, it seems the problem is more widespread. I'm not sure how this problem can be fixed (app side or text-to-speech side) but I hope this issue is resolved soon! I have books to read! 😟

I just noticed the same problem. I use a combination of the "Speak Selection" command in Siri with Kindle on my phone while I read simultaneously on my 55" plasma. It doubles my retention of the material.

Anyway, when "Speak Selection" started skipping after the last update (don't know if if was the IOS or Kindle update that did it), I had to resort to different means.

I to to Settings: General: Accessibility and set up Voice Over for voice and speed. Then I go to where I want to begin reading in Kindle. From there I give Siri the command "Turn Voice Over On," followed by the command "Open Kindle." From there, a double finger swipe down and I'm listening to my book with no skipping. Sometimes it stops on a picture, but all I have to do is reswipe. I prefer "Speak Selection" because of its mini control panel, but this will do for now.

Just got off the phone with Amazon. He said that it was definitely a Kindle app problem. Put in a help ticket and said that it would take a week but that they will get it resolved. If they don’t, feel free to keep nagging them. Or if more people called them, maybe they will expediate the process.

If you allow me to iterate, you can use the Accessibility Shortcut instead of calling Siri.

Go to Settings > General > Accessibilty > Accessibility Shortcut. Move VoiceOver to the top and select it.

Now you can just tripple click the home button to turn it on/off making much easier to start

Kindle just put out an update to the app that says

"We fixed an issue with Speak Screen compatibility - now narration no longer skips paragraphs."

I'm guessing because y'all contacted Kindle and more importantly y'all wrote feedback online, Kindle fixed it. Simply calling tech support tends to have less affect on change.
