When my husband and son each got iPhones I went ahead and just added them to my account. But this has been causing problems ever since (5+ years) with contacts, etc. How do I split it all up? I don't want to lose pictures or contacts from any device. We do have an iCloud account that everything is backed up to, but I just worry about losing pictures... Any help is greatly appreciated.

Photos on iOS with iCloud are not my strength. 😟 I see a bewildering number of documents on Apple's site regarding iOS and photos and what happens depends upon which services you use. My suggestion would be to back up each device to iTunes so the photos are on a computer, then change the IDs. After engaging Family Sharing you should have common access to individual's photos again.
