mail comes in corrupted with headers from the wrong email, and garbled bodies. I've rebuilt the mailbox countless times, and synchronized accounts, but it has not affect. Should I, and is there a way to remove OS Mail and reinstall fresh?

And the apple mail application can be deleted by entering in system preferences > internet accounts ( select the account and click on subtract sign ) .
It can be again added by opening mail app , click on mail on top menu bar - add account - then the box of web account is checked - type the complete gmail address click on next - fill up the password and click on done .Mails will start downloading in the new account and it is necessary the Mac is connected to wifi network and mail application is opened untill all mails get downloaded .
