I have followed all the steps above and I have followed all the steps above and my Mac still open on my watch

Has anyone else experienced this problem? On my Mac it does show that I have two Apple watches in System Preferences -Security as I initially purchased a Watch and then returned it because it wasn’t working correctly. I have checked the box for both watches as I cannot tell the difference between them. How do I know which box to check or uncheck? Could that be the problem?
