Overheating

My 6 year old MacBook Pro is overheating? I use it on the bed. Should I get a cooling pad or what do you recommend?

Macbook Overheating Hello Everyone, I have a 10 day old base Macbook Pro with touch bar. The computer heats up quite badly without any big applications running. A Word Document, A safari browser with 10 or 11 tabs running maybe, a Preview document, and you suddenly have a macbook which you cannot keep on your lap. Can anyone tell me whether it is usual for the Macbook to heat up so easily, and if so, what are the solutions to rectify the heating problem.
