Favorite contacts for iMessage and naming groups

I am just a basic user of iMessage. So, I must be missing a few tips and techniques.

The list of possible contacts that comes up when I start to enter something into the To: (recipients) field seems like a mishash.

Is there a way to have favorite contacts come up first/

Is there a way to name a group of recipients?

I haven't found a way, so I'm hoping someone can share some insight.

Mac Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.2), Apple Mail 10.2, IMAP,Comcast
