imessage and FaceTime problem after porting

I’ve recently ported a number across to iPhone but iMessage and FaceTime still link to the previous number associated with the handset. I’ve tried following Apple guidance to deregister but it wants to send a code to the old number but I can’t access messages as it doesn’t exist!

iPhone 8, iOS 11.2.6

Hey there, SBS20,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you are trying to set up a new phone number with iMessage and FaceTime on the same phone you were using your old number on, but it doesn't seem to be working. The old number is still tied to them, even though you have deregistered. I'm happy to help!

Based on what you've described is going on, I'd recommend following the steps outlined in If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support . Even though the title of the article doesn't quite match your issue, the steps included can be used for your situation as well.

Should you still have trouble with getting your current phone number working with iMessage and FaceTime after using the steps in that article, please reach out to Apple Support directly for additional assistance. You can do that here: Contact Apple Support .

Cheers!
