screensaver high sierra

I have the screen saver pointed towards a folder with photos in it, but that folder has subfolders with pics organized by year. Screensaver doesn't seem to recognize the subfolders. Is there a way to direct the screensaver to do so, or is there a 3rd party app that can?

Import into Photos and place them into an Album, then select that Album in the Screensaver Preference.
