3/1/18 iPhone sending iMessage shows delivered, yet Im told by recipient my messages never went through

I called Verizon, they said b/c my message was Blue, it was sent via iMessage. I only found out b/c I emailed and mentioned sending two texts, so how would I even know if this continues to happen in future... assuming my messages get sent... but do not. Any tips to help in this Apple ID mystery?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.1.2, apple ID
