Old iPod Touch - Is it still useable?

I have an iPod Touch Model MA627J, of which I deleted all my music and reset all it's settings.

How do I download my music back to my iPod from my Mac Book Library?

When I try and sync it, I get a message that reads "an invalid response was received from the device"
