What if I stop paying ICloud upgrade?

I’m just curious, if I upgrade my iCloud to 50GB for $.99 monthly, what happens if I know longer want to pay the $.99 monthly? Or if I decide to switch phones and no longer want iPhone? What happens to my already backed up iCloud stuff? Do I lose it or can I still be able to access it?
