Hi. I would prefer to install High Sierra onto a stand alone hard drive to check whether my hardware will work. How would I do that please?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Connect the drive, reformat it if needed, open the High Sierra installer, and specify it when setting up the installation.

It’ll be the startup disk after the installation is complete. To change it later, use the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences or restart with the Option key held down.
