Videos is choppy in iMove/Final Cut Pro

I am recording video in 4k 60FPS on my iPhone X, I imported the video to iMovie and Final Cut Pro through my photo library on MacBook Air but the video imports choppy in both iMove and FCP. It plays just fine on my phone.

What do I need to do to fix this?

These videos play fine with VLC player. Any video taken from the same phone in HEVC format (probably since iOS 12) plays smoothly in Photos, Quicktime and VLC player. Choppy video playback on videos shot on iPhone X I have a 2012 Macbook Pro. I noticed that with any video shot on my iPhone X, the playback is very choppy in the "Photos" app. At first I thought it was because they were shot in 4K, but I have videos shot in 4K from my old iPhone 6s and they play back fine. Any idea why this happens or if it's possible to fix? I know this is an old machine but it's still pretty powerful.. has 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 and 16 GB of RAM. Full system specs below. iMovie won't play video My iPhone 8 videos import to iMovie just fine...but as a single photo. Won't play as a video. A little flash window appears that tells me "Video is exported as an image. Export to disk to retain video file". I have NO idea what that means, because I'm exporting it from my photos into the iMovie! I have changed the setting in my phone to the "Most Compatible" one and did a test...still doesn't work.

The literature says that iMovie works with 4k 30 fps. At 60 fps it is problematic and others have reported difficulties. That might be causing the choppiness you are experiencing. Choppiness in general can be a frame rate issue.
