No music sync checkbox

MacBook Pro mid 2015

Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.3

I have songs which I imported into iTunes,. When I try to sync to my iPad (MGTX@LL/A 11.2.6 (15D100)) after selecting the ipad device, when I click on the music setting, I do not get a check box to enable me to turn on syncing of some or all iTunes music.
