I drop and drag my home videos into my iCloud drive. Some of the videos are showing up with a cloud next to them- why

I use iCloud on my IMac OS X El Capitan . I drag home videos Ive made in iMovie from my iTunes to ICloud Drive that is listed when I bring up finder. Some of the videos are showing up with a cloud next to them and some aren't. What's the difference?

Types of video files stored on iCloud that play without having to download first I want to transfer my videos from Google Drive to iCloud to take advantage of all the space I bought with Apple One Premier. So far, videos that are in MPEG-4 and MP4 formats will play by clicking on them, but an M4V or MPEG download themselves without playing. Can anybody explain this to me? Is there anything I can do for these common videos types to play in a window rather than downloading them? Thanks Jim C

Moving videos to iCloud Is this really necessary? A few years ago I needed an external hard drive ($$ to me) to handle the storage of a growing volume of videos (mostly home projects—not downloaded). Now Apple wants me to move all my videos to iCloud so I can view them on “all my devices”. They of course don’t mention that my storage will need to be expanded as well ($ to me). They no longer support moving my videos to my iPhone from iMovie. Am I being taken for a fool, or is this just technological evolution and I’d better get used to it?
