I need to use a mouse with my ipad pro. What gives?

I know this has been a question before. Has Apple pulled their head out yet and made it possible to pair a mouse with this thing. I have things to do and little time for what the world will be like in the future. Right now I need a mouse to work with my ipad pro. Or send me some kind of futuristic device that allows me to place my cursor where I want it without having to reach out and touch the **** display everytime i want move something or cut and paste or select an object, etc. The pen has it's moments but touch screens are for drawing not for a replacement to the mouse. I would like a pair of glasses that know exactly what my eyes are looking at within a micron and then when I blink that would place the cursor then I could say "select next word" and it would just do that. You know or,.... maybe for now a mouse....

And who decides what is and isn't "constructive"?

I searched for why iPad's don't have trackpad's and landed here. I read through the posts. I found it interesting. I don't think anything in it could be called "constructive", whether it's the folks saying they want it or the folks saying it's not designed for it.

By far the most interesting part is how much people are participating in something that isn't technical or constructive. I would have imagined that the post would have just been ignored since it is on the edge of violating the rules. I guess not.

Either way, it was a fun distraction.

These are user to user support communities PROVIDED by Apple.

There is a dedicated team of Apple support community moderators who screen and moderate the activity in these communities.

The community terms of use are not suggestions, but guidelines that are strictly enforced by the staff of Apple Support Community moderators that watch over/moderate these technical support ONLY communities.

These Apple product technical support communities are not a social media website location for you to rant, complain, incite negative discussions or otherwise berate Apple and its products, its employees,or any contributors that participate here in these technical support communities.

I can tell you exactly why I personally need a pointing device. A stylus would be perfect, if I could find one that does what I need.

I spend a lot of time working with SVG maps and photogrammetry applicatons, my finger is not an accurate pointer. I need pixel level accuracy, in a browser to select the elements that I want to examine. I need to be able to long-press the precise coordinate, to access the context menu.

The Apple Pencil would be perfect if it supported that. Why it that too much to ask for in a Freeform drawing device?

Never going to happen.

There will never be mouse or trackpad/ball support.

Apple has always envisioned their mobile devices, and the iPad, specifically, to be, primarily, touch ONLY devices.

The iPad was the mobile touch computing device that was always conceived of and designed first, but Apple used what it learned conceptualising, designing and engineering the iPad and used that knowledge to design, build and introduce/market the iPhone first.

I am typing those words using my fancy new iPad Pro 12.9. Since Apple started to speak about the iPad as a computer replacement, they became a marketing company that all what they want is push you to pay for their expensive fancy products.

Since a while back, Apple forgot about something called productivity or user experience and focused on slim design and eye catching features.

The iPad is dangerous as it promotes itself as the next generation computer replacement productivity tool whereas in my openion after using computers for years, the iPad destroys people’s productivity. Apple wants you to go back to the days where computers did not have a mouse without providing at least any similar productivity option.

Today my main productivity tool is my 15 inch MacBook Pro which Apple gives the least of their attention. My fancy iPad is the best tool for web browsing and Youtube. Oh, you can use also the pencils for some nice sketches or write this review.

Apple is working for the Shareholder‘s short term interest withought a solid view into the future.

It might be that someone asked for a good Digital to Audio (DAC) in the iPad/iPhone and Apple response was to punish those asking by removing the built in DAC and the headphone jack All together.

so, please guys, do not irritate Apple as if you insist on having a mouse, they might remove the keyboard and by this we will not be able to type and just use only the pencil.

I am currently reading and replying to this posting on my ipad pro, and using a mouse!! How? It's a bit of a cheat/compromise. By running the app, Duet on my iPad, it acts as a second display for my macbook pro, and shows another Finder screen, within which, the mouse will operate the cursor as if it were a Mac. Probably not the device setup being sought, but useful all the same.

As has been mentioned numerous times already here, there is long standing support for driving a mouse on several forms of Remote Desktop sessions - VPN, MS RDC, etc.

But there has never been, and is not, any support whatsoever for a mouse in native iOS on any iOS device Itself. Which is what this thread is about.

With duet you are using Mac OS apps on your Mac - you are not running iOS apps on the iPad itself.

This makes me crazy that they won't add it, I 100 percent agree that what harm would it cause, seriously Hey Apple I would probably have one of your most high end iPads if you added this !! It's that same mindset with taking away the AUX was somehow acceptable. You can use a mouse and keyboard with a Samsung and hey look they still sell a lot of laptops. Really wish Apple would realize they aren't losing out on MacBook sales just hurting iPad sales and ******* off potential long term repeat customers that will just look else where for their next tablet.(android is only getting better)Apple why not start being a company that is for the people.

I buy and use iPads SO I don't have to use or schelp around extra cumbersome peripheral devices; like keyboards, trackpads or mice.

If more users learned to use the iPad's virtual software keyboard, you'll find Apple incorporated a very nifty, handy and very useful built-in keyboard trackpad feature, already.

The built-in trackpad feature has been with iOS for three full iOS versiond, now!

Been using this awesome feature for the last 3-4 years!

If many of the “old schoolers, haven't insisted on trying to turn iPads into a traditional laptops, you wouldn’t be complaining about an input device issue that Apple is never going to change its mind on.

If you needed a mobile computing device with a traditional ports, mice and trackpads, then you should have purchased a real laptop computer, like the NEW MacBook Air or some other laptop computer OR one of the Microsoft Surface line of tablets that supports ALL of which you seek!

The iPad is what it is and what Apple envisioned it would be.

IF you cannot work within the iPad/iOSVparadigm. then sell it and purchase the tool ( mobile computing device ) that fits and meets your needs.

I have lived with using Apple mobile iDevices with NO use of additional, bulky peripherals, of any type, for 8 years and do not miss these things, at all!

If I wanted a portable, mobile computer that used a traditional keyboard, mouse and/or trackpad, I would have purchased a MacBook Air!

Instead, I purchase iPads for theirnhigh portability and ultimate convenience.

I purchase iPads for creative use, not for doing the normal, mundane, boring things on it that ANY other full featured computer can do.

if you had the chance to use a mouse over the pencil would you still use the pencil instead ?

Yes. I don't like mice. I use the built in trackpad on my Mac (when I'm not forgetting and trying to tap the screen).

In things like meetings, using the Pencil on an iPad flat on the table is far less obtrusive than typing on a screen that stands between you and other people.

Dec 12, 2018 7:21 AM in response to Mr_ios_man

I would certainly use a pencil! I absolutely HATE mice. I haven't used one for years. They are the worst pointing device for computers in the world. They cause repetitive stress injuries (like carpal tunnel syndrome). Early user focus groups back before they made it to the Mac Classic universally panned them, saying they were stupid and would never catch on. They should never have been invented. Blame Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) for inventing these instruments of the Devil that have enriched hand surgeons. While Macs support them the built in pointing device for Apple's notebook computers are trackpads, not mice. And Apple pushes trackpads for use with desktops also. And iPads also have built in trackpads - just put 2 fingers on the keyboard and you can move the cursor with your fingers.

I need to use a mouse with my ipad pro. What gives?
