I need to use a mouse with my ipad pro. What gives?

I know this has been a question before. Has Apple pulled their head out yet and made it possible to pair a mouse with this thing. I have things to do and little time for what the world will be like in the future. Right now I need a mouse to work with my ipad pro. Or send me some kind of futuristic device that allows me to place my cursor where I want it without having to reach out and touch the **** display everytime i want move something or cut and paste or select an object, etc. The pen has it's moments but touch screens are for drawing not for a replacement to the mouse. I would like a pair of glasses that know exactly what my eyes are looking at within a micron and then when I blink that would place the cursor then I could say "select next word" and it would just do that. You know or,.... maybe for now a mouse....

iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 11.2.6, 12.9

Swiftpoint GT Mouse.

Imagine that! Someone recognized that there is a world of need out there and created a product to fit the need. Furthermore, worldwide companies, like TEAMVIEWER, spent their own capital in recognition of the need, and created applications to fill the VOID that bubble people can't see.

You can use a select few mice and select remote desktop apps for support in a Remote Desktop session. But that‘s it. You cannot use a mouse in iOS itself, nor for any of the 99.9999% of the 2 million plus non-remote desktop apps in the App Store.

So for those people who are not interested at all in a remote desktop session app and are asking about using a mouse in iOS and iOS Apps, you’re answer is completely off target and simply incorrect.

You guys check out Citrix X1 mouse and SwiftPoint GT mouse for Ipad. These Mice are compatible with the Jump desktop application. My workflow looks like this...

1. create a virtual machine on paperspace.com
2. install jump desktop host on the virtual machine
3. remote into your virtual machine using the jump desktop IOS app
4. Use one of the above mice and you now have a full blown operating system and mouse control when you need it.

The only down side to this workflow is that you need a stable internet connection and have to pay for a paperspace machine. If you already have a good workstation, then you can eliminate the paperspace machine cost.

Well said, ( Kzoom)!!!😠

FYI: TeamViewer will allow for a mouse, SwiftPoint, to work with the iPad. Citrix has one to, but DON'T BOTHER WITH CITRIX---OR IT'S MOUSE. I bought both. Citrix and it's outsourced idiot support people can't help with some serious problems.

TeamViewer on the other hand, is great and so is SwiftPoint. So---YES, you can use a mouse with an iPad!!

The functionality is built in to iOS

No, it isn't. There is no mouse pointer built into iOS, there is no mouse location stack, no click response controller, or code to determine where the mouse is at a given time, or act on its input. Or even any way to draw a pointer on screen.

The 3rd party apps that do support the mouse for remote desktop, and there are a few, don't even implement the mouse control directly, they merely pass the mouse input to the remote operating system and it takes care of determining where on the screen the mouse is when it clicks.

iOS has no support for mouse, it is Apple's design philosophy, But it also extends to how the OS works. Its simply not designed to support a mouse.

If you need to get a Surface to do you work, then get a Surface. There is nothing sad about choosing the right product for your work. If the iPad does not do what you need it to do, feel free to get whatever other device you feel does.

Apple will not suffer because of it, and frankly no users in these user to user forums will care either way.

For Remote Desktop sessions, the Citrix M1 mouse and Citrix app support a mouse for the sole use of Remote Desktop interactions. I believe there is one other similar product from another company too.

And regardless of rumors about future releases, until or unless Apple does actual make a change, iOS remains a Touch only interface system. Nobody is wrong for wanting something, but only Apple can engineer changes to their IP and thus far, they have steadfastly not done so, nor given any hint that they are interested in doing so.

Came onto this video, demonstrating both a two-button wireless mouse and a wired mouse with adapter, utilizing iOS 13, now, which he says will be known only as iPadOS. Thought you might enjoy.

The accessibility button on the lower right he so often uses is available, now, however. I’ve got mine set up to do a one-handed screenshot, vs. the two-handed grab two buttons original method. Makes life so much better.

Interesting the single button Apple mouse won’t work yet.

You are incorrect.

There is NO native mouse/trackpad function code in iOS.

There NEVER has been as evidenced by the fact that there is no UI cursor arrow programmed into iOS.

Apple programmed iOS, from its getgo and introduction of iOS and the first iPhone, as a touch interface OS ONLY.

Apple never intended to use any external mice or trackpads with their mobile devices.

And while Apple allowed wireless Bluetooth keyboards to work with iDevices, Apple really wanted everyone to learn to use the iPad’s onboard virtual keyboard, instead.

If you use the iOS onboard virtual software keyboard, Apple designed a very nice trackpad feature into the virtual keyboard to be able to easily navigate any document or spreadsheet.

Another third party virtual keyboard app maker makes an onboard keyboard with a nice set of document navigation arrow keys to easily navigate documents and spreadsheets, too!

There are tools/apps available that do what you need to do without resorting to purchasing more bulky external input devices to have to lug around.

Both already mentioned several times in this thread, and neither of which does anything at all to address the issue raised by the OP. The OP wants native iOS mouse support for any and all iOS apps - nothing at all in the OP post indicates they care at all about Remote Desktop sessions and mouse support.

iOS has no native mouse support and no app in iOS has native mouse support.

Jan 23, 2019 4:13 AM in response to rmariboe

Except for those products - which are apps and mice and work together like any laptop app and mouse would.

Yes, for a Remote Desktop session from an iOS device those work fine. That is not what the OP (and others here and in other threads) was asking for however.

The OP and others wants full mouse support natively in iOS for all iOS apps - not just Remote Desktop sessions only. Several have mentioned specifically they want to dump their desktops and laptops and just use iPad.

And iOS itself has no support for a mouse or trackball.

Two mice currently exist for the iPad; Citrix X1 and Swiftpoint GT, and a few apps such as Jump Desktop and Citrix XenApp support them. Both are remote desktop applications so if you have a computer running somewhere with decent Internet, you might go that way for mouse requiring applications. Jump supports screen extension so if you connect your iPad/iPhone to an external monitor, you'll get the native resolution of that monitor. I don't know about XenApp.

A limited number of apps will support a mouse for use with screen sharing. That didn't seem to be what Kzoom wanted, though. It sounds as if they want a mouse for more general use. And, that's not possible at this time.

I'm not at all clear why you feel the need to be rude to me.
