How to cope with no startup "Bong!"...?
Last Friday I took delivery of a new iMac 27” and have one annoying “problem” — without the startup sound I find it very difficult to know exactly when to hold down the relevant keys for, say, starting up into Safe Mode, Recovery Mode or wanting to get to the Startup Manager to choose a start drive. It usually takes several attempts to get it right, but more often than not I either hold down the key too early or too late, and the Mac just boots up normally!
I have sent Apple feedback about this. I work alone at home, and there´s no reason that I can see as to why I shouldn´t be given the option of having the startup “Bong!” or not, and it shouldn´t be done to guesswork IMHO. I´ve been used to the sound for years and sorely miss it.
I´d be very grateful for any help/suggestions/tips! Thanks! Ian.
