Add Keyboard

Open System Preferences. (You can search with with command + space) | Select the keyboard

Choose the Input source | click on the + sign.

Select Sinhala | click 'Add' | close dialog box.

Now you should see keyboard added. You can checkmark the 'Use the Caps Lock to switch to and from' for much to switch efficiently.

You can change language from the menu bar as well.

If you are a beginner to type in Sinhala on Mac you can turn on the keyboard to see the layout while you type.


To show the keyboard Goto Settings | Keyboard | Select keyboard tab | Checkmark the Show keyboard and emoji viewer in menu bar | Hit close to close the dialog box

Type in Sinhala

Now, if you go to the menu | click on the input language icon you should be able to see 'Show keyboard Viewer'

Select to open the viewer.

Helpful Tips:

  • While pressing command key you can type in English or with the default input.
  • ඳ, ඟ, ඏ, ඬ, ෳ are available by pressing option key.
