Just upgraded to Logic Pro 10.4 along with High Sierra.
During playback, audio drops out intermittently every 10 sec. or so. Never happened before, including on the same file I was working on in old Logic. Anyone have this issue?

I do have a few "couldn't be opened" plugins in plug-in manager and a couple 'failed validation".
For example I have two "Crossover" files in Plug-in Manager. One is validated and one "failed validation". However in my Components and VST folders there is only one of each.
I don't have demo versions. Is there a good way of cleaning these files up?

s it possib;le that the OS update resulted in a plugin being unactivated/registered? Many plugins insert gaps in the audio until registered to get out of demo mode.

You were exactly correct. Ozone worked but, when I reinstanciated it, it required reauthorization. As you said, it reverted to demo mode. After that, all is well.
