GarageBand Audio Distortion

I am using an external mic to record myself into GarageBand. Without changing any settings, I recorded myself using the "natural voice" option. When played back, the audio is sped up and the audio sounds like I have selected a helium option. What in the world do I need to do? I have tested the mic on another computer (not in GarageBand) and on this same computer using photobooth and the sound is just fine. What setting is wrong in GarageBand?

GarageBand 10, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

although you don't mention the mic you're using, we'll assume it's a USB mic, and the likely culprit is that the sample rate is set too low; GB only supports a 44.1k sample rate.


open the Audio MIDI Setup utility and make sure the sample rate is set correctly:
