MacBook Core 2 Duo Wifi: airport Exreme Update 2007-001 fix!!

At last!...
After applying this update my MacBook C2D now successfully connects to my SMC Barricade 2804WBRP-G.

It's been a long wait, but what a relief now!
Hope it will be the same for other users with various routers.

Guess we will need updated Bootcamp drivers to enjoy connectivity on XP side too...

Apple had better make sure they've plugged holes in C2D MacBooks. That exploit that they addressed with the security update seems to have been affecting my MacBook C2D for the past week or so, causing kernel panics when I would connect to the internet over Airport. I'm hoping that Apple is wrong, and that this fix will in fact address the issue on my C2D MacBook.

I am typing this on my good ol TiBook. On my brand new MacBook I cannot. The Airport will not connect to the AirTunes Station. Before the update I had a bad connection which would permanently drop. Now I cannot connect at all.

I dont know how Apple defines this. I call it a MAJOR trouble. And no, my microwave oven is not running.

Hi folks,
I, too, was having the same exact problem: this morning my wireless connection with my 2Wire modem/router (1701, I guess!) was working flawlessly; in fact, I used the connection to download the update. Restarted and I had the message: there was an error connecting to the Airport network!!!
I called apple and as always someone even less knowledgable than yours truely wasted both our times.
Called the sbc. the technitian, that was talking to me from Philippines I might add, suggested to connect with WEP off: it worked.
Then we figured using WPA might do the trick, an sure enough I am using my macbook and secured internet connection to post this message right now.

I'm experiencing weird problems with this update. I can connect to the Internet fine on startup, but after a while all of a sudden it will decide to go weird and my IP address goes whacko and seems to lose connection to the router even though airport still says I'm connected to the router. The IP is all wrong and so I can't do anything, even connect to the router setup.

To fix I have to shut down, restart, or sleep the computer until it happens again.

This is very bad.

I hate this! i just switched to a mac at christmas and i shouldnt have problems... everything worked perfectly until the update and now i cant connect at home. it worked perfectly when i joined the network at school yesterday, but it wont work at home... PLEASE HELP... anyone

Howdy,

I can help you out with that one. You need to log into the the router either via airport (which is not working) or a direct connection using an cat 5 ethernet cable. Once you've established a connection, select under the apple in the top menu, under location, choose "network preferences". If your connected using an ethernet cable, under where it says "Show", select "Built-In Ethernet". If you are using your Airport to connect, you would select that. Now once in the next window, the number you want to copy is next to "Router:". That's your routers IP number. Close that window and go to Safari or what ever browser you use and type in "http://192.168.1.X. The number that appears after the "http://" is your router number you just copied. Once you hit return, you'll be into you router. When the page opens, click on the "Home Network" icon at the top. A new window will open, off to the right you see "Status at a glance", in that window click on "Edit Settings". On the next window you'll need to enter your password to change settings. This password is usually not your wireless password, but the one that you selected when you set-up the account. Try your email password if you can't remember, that sometimes it is the same. Once you get in, you'll see "Identify Network", here you can actually rename your wireless name if you want to. Below that you'll see Wireless Security. This should be enabled, next to "Authentication, THIS is where you can change to a WPA security protocol. Also, you'll need to enter a password that's at least 8 characters long. Next hit save below. That's it. Now you have to re-connect and enter the new password and you should be on.

Sorry this was so long, but didn't know how technically capable you are. Hope this did it for you.

thank you! this worked for me and now i am able to access the internet using my airport on my macbook

The update downloaded and installed last night on my MacBook. Prior to this, my AirPort was working perfectly with 2Wire 2700HG Router using WEP 40Bit Hex encryption. Now, the MacBook can't establish a connection. I can turn on WPA on the Router, but my other computers do not support WPA. Since the Update is defective, is there a way to uninstall the Update? I tried a Mac because everyone swore it was more stable and easier to use than WindowsXP box, but I'm finding just the opposite to be true. AppleCare doesn't have a clue and there's no way to escalate.

BTW, I'm not having any problem when I boot in XP using Boot Camp on the MacBook, so clearly the problem is defective software from Apple.
