Filling a Mask With Color Picker to Remove part of a Background

Hello and thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

I think the attached still from video speaks for itself. I have a multi clip, working fine, but one angle has the studio background.

Is there a way to draw a mask and fill it to appear to fill/remove that background?

Or perhaps I am asking the wrong question.

Perhaps there is a way to just overlay an entirely new background using an image via some masking operation?

Very difficult to do well. The background is a gradient that requires a smooth, gradual transition of color and luminance. Assuming the subject never moved in front of that area, a graphics artist could probably paint out the background and make it look good.

Thank you for this.

I think you and Tom have convinced me that this not worth the amount of time and effort.

Like I mentioned to Tom, I think I will just stay with a clean angle :-)

What Tom said. Tricky.

Specifically, you would use a Draw Mask effect to eliminate that area from the clip, and add the artist-created false background as a connected clip below your multicam. You may have to keyframe the mask if the athlete moves over that area in part of the clip.
