Why do I get the headphones connected on my recent apps

Hi,

For some reason I seem to get from time to time, I get the panel down at the bottom on my recent apps that says "headphones connected" (as describe do in the picture below), anyone know what this means?

Is it like a fast access panel so you can launch your apps that require headphones quicker?

I have an iPhone 5C running iOS 10.3.3
