Macbook Pro is deleting files from desktop

I have a recently purchased Macbook Pro. I noticed that files from my drop box automatically deleted but now, I have files that were only stored on the desktop have gone to trash. How can I change this if its a setting? I checked the optimization and I do not use Icloud. Why are my files deleting from Desktop?

iCloud Drive upload feature deleted everything on my local Desktop I have been using iCloud Drive for a few months now on my Macbook Pro 2014 (macOS Mojave 10.14). I was low in HD space for a few weeks and suddenly last night everything on my Desktop was deleted. Luckily, everything (actually meant most) is saved on iCloud Drive. However, I can not seem to get it back onto my Desktop. I have tried logging out then in. And for some god forsaken reason, there is no multiple file download option through the web portal for iCloud. How do I get my files back down on my laptop / or to another reliable cloud storage provider like Google Drive or Dropbox?????

Desktop and Documents Folders Deleted From MacBook Upon Startup I have the "Desktop & Documents Folders" option enabled in iCloud Drive, which I want to keep enabled as it's a good way to back up all my important files. But, every time I restart my MacBook, the files are inexplicably deleted off my computer and have to be redownloaded from my Drive, which means I have to re-download around 75 GB of files every time I update or restart my computer. This is incredibly frustrating, not to mention inconvenient and a big waste of time. Is there any way to keep sending my Desktop and Documents folders to the cloud without it being removed upon shutdown? Thanks!

Have you enabled iCloud Drive? Might it be DropBox? When they are deleted do you check if they are in the Trash?
