Disappearing Notes and Annotations in Preview

Hi Diane,

I found the same issue, and for me it seemed to be related to having the highlight function 'on'/'selected' (little pen icon). Once I'd unselected that, I was able to double click on the yellow boxes and have the note's contents appear. It doesn't seem to be the case with other markup tools. Hope that helps!

Did you dbl-click on the "yellow boxes"?

If you make any change to any PDF, I have found that it is best to purposely use the File menu > Save every time you make a change or else it magically disappears. So, if you did not save it (even before you move on to the next page), then I'd assume they're gone.

I've seen the problem mentioned before but I haven't run into it.

I can only suggest using a different PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

Sorry. Not what I meant. You would have to create the notes in Adobe in the first place.
