checkbox actions ?

Hi Everyone,

Can a checkbox inside of a cell to do any action?

For example, when it's checked in B2 to add the current time in C2?

Thank You.

  • Click once to select cell.
  • Click again to place insertion point in the cell.
  • Go Insert > Date & time OR
    Press command-;
  • Click once more to get menu shown.

Format choices in the pop-up menu include different forms of the date, Time only formats (12 or 24 hour clock), and formats that show both Date and Time values.

Once entered, the same three clicks on the cell will bring up the same menu, with the opportunity to (re)set the date to 'today' or any other day using the calendar. Set to Today woul be more accurately labeled Set to Now, as it updates both the Date and Time parts. Clicking the calendar icon lets you change the date without changing the time, by clicking the new date on the calendar, and offers two boxes where you can edit the Date or Time settings independently.

Barry

Hi avidican,

You can use the NOW or TODAY functions, but they are dynamic. They automatically update when you make any change to a document.

In human speak, if B2 is ticked (TRUE) then insert NOW, else insert "" (NULL, blank).

Example 1, click on B3

and the time (NOW) updates from 11:35 pm to 11:42 pm in all cells in C

Example 2, edit Table 1-1

The time updates to 11:46 pm in all cells in C

Instead of Checkboxes, perhaps you want Menu > Insert > Date & Time (click twice in a cell to insert the cursor. That makes the menu item active).

Double click on the inserted Date & Time to format.
