Does it show as cancelled on your account, and if it does how long before its auto-renewal did you cancel it ? If less than 24 hours you are likely to be charged, if more than 24 hours contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com or https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
