Blue light shield
i have macular degeneration. I keep my IPad Air on night shift mode, warm all the time.
Do I still need a blue light protector shield to be safe ?

If you’ve actually been diagnosed with macular degeneration, then I would use one regardless. I would want to take all the precautions I could. However, if you wear glasses with high index polycarbonate lenses with antireflective coatings, they already block almost all of the harmful wavelengths

Sorry, I don’t really know. I’ve worn glasses since I was a kid so I rely on those (and I do not have actual macular degeneration). I do currently have both one pair of glasses without any specific blue light filter and one (lens crafters) with. But I have not noticed any difference in wearing either and I am at a computer monitor of one kind or another typically 8+ hours every day (and have been for 30+ years). My own research indicated the lens crafters blue blocker lenses actually offer minimal additional filtering over regular high index lenses with antireflective coatings but the “upgrade” from lens crafters was free so I thought I’d try them and see.
I wish you well though - I get my eyes imaged annually to monitor the macula but have no real idea what I’ll do if the doc notices a change there.

That’s my thinking also. Any recommendations for a safe shield ?
You might want to consult with your ophthalmologist or a support group for people with macular degeneration.
Best of luck.
