Question: how to find macbook serial number from non working macbook

I have a macbook with a non discript bottom and no serial number. The macbook had spillage and no longer works. Hard drive works and can be accessed. Is there a way to find specs from log files on old hard drive or serial number on motherboard?

The serial number is in firmware so displaying it requires booting the computer. It is displayed in System Information located in the Utilities’ folder. However, executing it on another computer will not display the serial number of your non-working computer no matter what is done to the HDD in it.

BTW, if it isn't on the back panel as MacJack has stated, then take off the back panel and see if it's located inside near or under the battery if the battery is user-removable.
