Pictures inserted in CONTACTS disappear and/or don't migrate via the Cloud

Using my iMAC (Hi Sierra 10.13.3) when I enter a new contact (CONTACTS 11.0) and try to insert a picture (As I have been doing for several years), the photo disappears if I close or even lower (yellow button) Contacts.

The contact containing the picture takes a long time (hours) to migrate via iCloud to my iPad 2 ( iOS 10.3.3), iTouch (iOS 9.3.5) and iPhone X (iOS 11.2.6).

Question 1: WHY DON'T PHOTOS "STICK" TO CONTACTS AS THEY USED TO?

Question 2: HOW DOES ONE FORCE MIGRATION (TO ANY CONNECTED DEVICE) FROM THE iMAC?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Actually, the latest version of iOS that an iPad 2 can use is iOS 9.3.5.

Check the following:

  • In the Contacts app on your Mac, check View > Show Groups and be certain the only entry there is "All Groups".
  • On the Mac, check System Preferences > iCloud and be certain "Contacts" is checked.
  • On the iPhone, check Settings > General > iPhone Storage and be certain you have at least 10% of the iPhone's total storage free.
  • On the iPad, check Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage (under Storage) and be certain you have at least 10% of the iPad's total storage free.

Maybe my iPad isn't a "2". MD510LL/A. The iOS is 10.3.3 (14G60).

MD510LL/A is an iPad 4. And indeed iOS 10.3.3 is the latest version of iOS the iPad 4 can use.

Sorry, if the settings are as I recommended, I'm out of ideas, except perhaps if you have some wi-fi connectivity issue on the Mac that would explain the latency. Hopefully someone else can provide more assistance.

I am having exactly the same problems, which I believe started with the most recent update to High Sierra (OS 10.13.4) although maybe earlier. Photos won't stick in Mac Contacts, though previous photos seem to all be still there.

New entries in Mac Contacts are not not synced to iCloud, which means they never sync to my iPhone. At the moment I have resorted to entering them in Mac Contacts, then emailing the contact to myself to add it to the iPhone.

This is really disturbing when you rely on syncing across all devices! For many years the syncing has worked perfectly, and I have checked all my settings several times.

Hi Greg.

After some well meaning, albeit ineffective, community responses and other web searches, I called Apple Tech Support 1-800-275-2273 and spoke to a bright, articulate woman who really helped solve my problem.

First, she had me sign out of iCloud. Then told me to shut down my iMAC and reboot in SAFE mode.

I then started Contacts and iCloud. After checking all the boxes appropriate to my use profile, I rebooted the iMAC and Contacts started to work as it had pre-High Sierra.

The "instant" connection to my other 5 Apple devices via the iCloud worked immediately. I have also been successful in adding and retaining pictures for my contacts.

So far - So good. Hope this helps or, at least, gets folks headed in the right direction.
