copy text from preview problem

I can copy from preview app showing pdf file to pages app until it contains "fi". It pastes everything except fi. For ex; copy config word then paste to pages. it only pastes as "con g".

What could be the reason?

Why is my text tool greyed out in Preview I have a pdf with text in it and I want to copy the text from the pdf and paste it in word. I have done this a million times before (maybe a slight exaggeration!) using the text tool and just selecting, copying and pasting. highlight to copy When I click and drag over txt to copy, the forst word is highlighted in yellow and defined. How do you copy to paste text?
