computer has really slowed

I have a desktop I-Mac 10.13.3. After an update in Nov. 2017, my machine has really slowed down. Today it quit half way through, after turning it on. Had to turn it off and try again. This time it promptly opened up, but very slowly. Can you assist me? Thanks. Sandra Gordon

iMac, iOS 10.1.1, operating system is 10.13.3
