Re: Memory upgrade iMac G4 1 GHz

I want to make sure I am buying the correct memory to install in my iMac G4 Flat Screen. My current memory is 256 MB, SDRAM, PC133-333. What I'm finding online to purchase is a 512 MB, Apple iMac Flat Screen 144-pin PC133 SDRAM SODIMM. Is this the correct memory? Can I add a 512 MB?

Your iMac must be a 700 or 800 MHz iMac G4. Your post may cause confusion in this thread because the original poster has a 1 GHz G4 which requires different memory.

Your 700 or 800 MHz iMac G4 requires:
  • PC133 3.3V 144-pin SO-DIMM in the user upgradeable slot.
  • PC133 3.3V 168-pin DIMM in the Apple installable slot.
You could install a 512 MB device in each slot.

Yes, I have a iMac G4 Flat Screen 800 MHz. My hardware overview says it has an L2 Cache (per CPU) 256KB, 256 MB Memory, Bus Speed 100MHz

I'm running out of memory so I've tried to delete files and apps I don't need anymore. I've backed up a lot of files but would still like to add memory because I know it's possible. I just need to purchase the correct memory.

You say the PC133 144-pin SO-DIMM is the the one? Is 512MB okay also? I've watched the tutorial on installing the memory and want to do it myself. Any comments on installing it myself? Thanks!
